Introduction

 Welcome to my family history web site which I hope  you will find interesting and informative.  It relates initially to those descendants  of John and Mary Miskelly who moved from Newtownards in Northern Ireland to Carlisle in what was then Cumberland between 1833 and 1835. 

Researching John and Mary in Ireland before 1833 has been difficult due to the lack of available records and despite several attempts through contacting Miskelly families living there I have  so far been  unable to collect any reliable information

I have been researching the Miskelly line for some ten years now and have put a lot of hard work and effort into trying to bring to life some of the information regarding previous generations of the Miskelly family. For those that do not know me I was  born in Penrith, Cumbria on the 16th April 1948 to James and Amy Miskelly (nee Banks) and spent most of my youth growing up in Penrith. We moved to Carlisle in 1957 where I remained until leaving home to join the Merchant Navy in 1965 and a year later after leaving the navy joined the Royal Air Force Regiment in July 1966. Nine years later after completing my service I moved to Lincolnshire where I have lived ever since. 

I hope you find this history interesting and informative and I am of course aware that not all the information gathered over the years may be 100% accurate and I would ask for and  appreciate any updated information that others may have.

I have of course concentrated most of my research on the Miskelly and McSkelly line but along the way I have also researched my mothers side, Banks/Storrow, and carried out some research on several of the families of the Miskelly female line. One of my first tasks was to locate the final resting place of those directly related to me and further on you will see where they are all laid to rest and sadly some of those have no headstones or markers just a paupers grave and I made it  one of my tasks to seek out and place a simple cross and flowers on each of their graves which I will have completed shortly.

As time goes on I will be adding more information and photographs and if anyone would like to help contribute anything towards the web site I would be very grateful.
