Penrith the place of my birth but actually was it ? I was born in the little hospital next door to number 23 Newton Road, the Miskelly residence, and I do believe at the time the Penrith district boundary ended at no 23 ! Well that's what I think anyway but my fondest memories are of Penrith and mostly laying in bed at night and listening to the steam trains flying down Shap fell with their whistles blowing. Climbing around the castle walls and of course my Great Uncle Maurice and his grocery shop opposite.
James Montgomery returned to Penrith from Darlington and from 1874 until 2006 there were Miskelly's living in Penrith .
Here in this gallery you will find relevant photos of dear old Penrith and if Grandma Miskelly could see what they have done to her lovely front garden she would be turning in her grave.

The Beacon Another favourite place climbing all the way up don't think I could make it these days. By the way Morrisons burned down a couple of years ago nothing to do with me though. They quickly erected what must have been their first tented store. | |
