Miskelly - McSkelly - Banks - Storrow

Latest Updates

JANUARY. 2019

How time flys here we are another year gone by so quickly. I have been communicating with the Canadian side of the family and in particular Scott Slaven who has transfered all of my family data on to a programme which can be printed out or viewed. This programme also produces a complete list of the relationship to me of everyone on the family tree. I have now added the availability of this programme to this site.

I am slowly running out of room for further additions to the ten pages I already have and may have to spend some more time extending it to 15 pages so as to enable future generations to be added.

I have also had communication from another family member who is the daughter of James Montgomery, the third member of the family to be named after the Montgomerys who came across to England with the Miskellys. Unfortunately I have lost contact but will try to find her again so she too can have her family added to the tree.

APRIL 2018

Well I have to admit I have been a little lax in keeping up with the family history. I have been through some traumatic times myself as I am sure have other family members. I lost my long term Partner Kathy Wake to the dreaded Pancreatic cancer in September of last year a great loss as we had been together for over 15 years.  As well as Kathy I have to report another great loss Albert Miskelly last of my fathers family sadly passed away recently. The last of his generation 7 brothers and 3 sisters all now gone.  On the up side I have heard from a member of the Storrow family in New Zealand who is a descendant of Hanna and Bowman Banks and I am waiting to hear from her so I can fill in a few gaps in their tree.

NOVEMBER 2015

After suffering a heart attack in February of this year the updating had to be put on hold for a while. Now much recovered it is time to update once again. First the good news my daughter Lisa and husband Chris welcomed a new daughter to their family Claudia Crompton arrived on 16th September 2015 a sister for Emily and a cousin to Jake.   The sad news is that a senior member of the family Amy Jane Kirk(nee Miskelly) born in Dumfries in 1926 died in Aberdeen on 5th November 2015.  I was able to attend at her funeral and meet up with many of her friends who had looked out for her in her senior years. Thank you to them.

JULY 2014

I have also just heard of the passing of  my Uncle Ron Heightley he was married to Doreen(nee Miskelly) Aunt Doreen passed away earlier this year. From that generation we now only have Albert Miskelly and Margie Miskelly.

I have just been informed of the death of my Uncle Peter Wallis. Peter married Sheila Miskelly in 1955. Sheila died in 2005.

JULY 2014

Finally received the Army service record of my Grandfather Thomas Miskelly. It showed he served for the whole of the First World War and spent all of it in India with his brother Albert. He served for 2 years during the Second World War but was then demobed medically unfit for service.

MAR 2014

Well have left it a while but following the good news in January of a Great Grandson for Doreen Heightley I have the sad task of the reporting of the passing of another much loved family member. Doreen Heightley passed away suddenly on the 14th February 2014. Doreens twin Kathleen had passed away some time ago and from a family of ten brothers and sisters only Albert Miskelly remains. Albert is currently residing in a car home in Carlisle.

JAN 2014

Well some good news and a bit of a landmark in the family history as far as I can tell.  Doreen Heightley (nee Miskelly) and Ron her husband have a Great Grandson born on the first of October 2013 Oliver Ellwood Brook as far as I can tell from the tree is the first born for some time with living Great Grandparents.

NOV 2013

Sadly I have to report the death of a much loved family member and cousin Dianne Flower who was taken from us by that dreaded cancer far to early. She will be sadly missed by all.

I have not been able to progress much further with the new found relatives in New Zealand but I am still hoping to get some information on this large family of eight.

AUG 2013

I have now been given lots of family info from Canada and have been to visit new found relatives Ian Miskelly and Amy Kirk (nee Miskelly) in Scotland. The information provided has enabled me to update the family tree which will now be 10 A4 pages. A large number of Miskelly's now reside in New Zealand and at the moment I only have the names of Dr Michael Miskelly's 8 children some of which are from previous marriages. Once I have more information from New Zealand I will endevour to update again.

MAY 2013

Having discovered more family namely the descendants of John Miskelly(1842) I have updated page C of the family tree. I will shortly have more info on the Canadian relatives descended from Mary Miskelly(1878) and Francis Brown. I have also added the Storrow Banks Census from 1841 to 1911

JULY 2012

I have now managed to update the Storrow Banks family tree which makes very interesting reading. It is on four pages and should be laid out in a rown 1-4 to give you the full tree. All pages are printable so you can print them off and keep a copy. There are still a couple of family members missing from the Canada branch and as soon as I get any more info I will update.

JUNE 2012

Earlier this month met up with Marvin Storrow and his wife in London and spent a very pleasant afternoon discussing the Storrow family. He was able to give me more information on his side of the family who emigrated from Penrith in the early 1900's. I will be updating the Storrow Banks family tree shortly and will make it available on this web site.

JUNE 2012

Finally after having spent a holiday in Devon I was able to solve the mystery of my Great Uncle Charles Henry Mortimer, married to Alice Miskelly, killed during the war by a German bomb which fell near his house in Exmouth. No one was aware of where he was buried including his surviving daughter Christine. He is in fact buried in an unmarked grave in Sandford churchyard along with his parents and sister Elsie.

JUNE 2012

Sadly this month the passing of another much loved family member and one of the family twins. Kathleen Adamson(1936)(nee Miskelly) died at her daughters home near Leeds and will be very sadly missed by all.

MARCH 2012

I have now received the accident report with regard to the death of John Miskelly (Sgt Pilot) in 1940. It would seem he was asked to fly too low by his instructor and the plane crashed after the wing tip hit the ground he was found not to blame. Check it out under Miskelly Military.

February 2012

It is with deep sadness  that we announce the death of John Miskelly (1937) After an eight month battle with cancer, John passed away peacefully at home in New Zealand at, 2 am on February 16, 2012 Surrounded by his family. Our thoughts are with his family at this time.

October 2011.

Summer over and time to get back to work on updating the web site.

We have another edition to the family in the shape of Daisy May Kelly daughter of Dawn and Craig who live in Carlisle. Dawn is the daughter of my sister Sandra and her husband Mike.

I am still making enquiries as to the last know resting place of Alice Mortimers (nee Miskelly) husband who was killed by a German bomb in 1941 in Exmouth Devon. So far he has been untraceable after months of research and I am now awaiting the results of a thorough search by the Devon record office.

I have made contact with a descendant of Annie Storrow sister of my Great Grandmother Hanna and hope to be able to update their tree shortly.

June 2011.

Sadly this month we lost Adele Miskelly widow of Walter Miskelly who was the eldest of that generation.

On a happier note my daughter Lisa Crompton gave birth to our latest family edition Emily Grace Crompton weighing in at 8lb 4oz.

This morning I have added the RAF Service Record of John Miskelly (1907-1940)

Have updated BMD records and they should now show ALL Miskelly Births from 1837.  The Miskelly name was most prominent in the very north of England most others were in Wales where in nearly all the cases the 'Y' was dropped and the name changed to MISKELL.

There were some in Liverpool in particular a naval surgeon who had a street named after him . Google it and you will see where it is.

Recently addded Miskelly Messengers read Thomas Miskelly Post Office Service Record.

22-02-11 BMD Certificates added.

24-02-11 McSkelly Seperate Tree added.

24-02-11 Miskelly Gathering pictures added.

24-02-11 Banks Family gallery pictures added.

01-03-11 Census for McSkelly/Miskelly confusion.

03-03-11 Marriage for McSkelly/Miskelly confusion.

04-03-11 McSkelly/Miskelly marriage update.

05-03-11 Visit to Christine Stallwood(nee Mortimer - daughter of Alice Mortimer nee Miskelly) Pictures of where her and her son Johns ashes were spread.

07-03-11 - Updated Alice Miskelly(1889) tree.

07-03-11 - Added Joseph Storrow Banks Military  service records.

08-03-11 - Have found Elizabeth Miskelly(1845) who did marry Peter Nimmey. They are on the 1881, 1891, and their children on the 1901 census. So the Mormon web site was right and she did marry in 1866. I have sent for a copy of Elizabeth McSkelly's marriage certificate which should prove or disprove who she did actually marry.

11-03-11 - The above certificate has now arrived and shows that an Elizabeth McSkelly, born 1836 in Ireland and not part of the clan already living in Carlisle, did in fact marry a George Chisholm in 1864 in Carlisle Registry Office.  I have displayed the certificate on the McSkelly page for you to see.

03-04-11 -Added brief family histories for  John and Mary and some their children.
