As far as I am aware the story told is that John and Mary came over from Ireland with a Montgomery family with home they stayed on arrival in Carlisle. James Montgomery was obviously named in their honour. Here you will find relevant pictures of Carlisle and the areas the Miskelly's lived in.

![]() | Eden Place You get a nice view of the river Eden from here but a lot of houses have been demolished to make way for newer residences. |
Duke Street John and Mary continued to live here at Duke street until their deaths. The site of No 2 Back Duke Street now has a new block of flats built upon it.
The Pub ! Every mans dream a house next to the pub. The pub is now also closed a sign of the times I am afraid.
Back Duke Street The back of the houses on Duke Street presumably the entrance to No 2 Back Duke Street was here somewhere.
Dixons Mill Just across the road from No 2 Back Duke Street Dixons Mill with it's imposing structure, my father told tales of how he climbed it to weld steel straps to keep the bricks from falling, all of Johns family are recorded at one time or another as working in the weaving industry. They may have worked in the Mill or worked from home at their trade.
